Origins

Mini Lop is a descendant of Klein Widder, a dwarf lop types derived from Lop Germany, crossed with chinchillas. Widder Klein arrived in the United States are imported from Germany in 1972 from a breeder in California, Bob Herschbach, who try to improve their species.

Li crossed with French Lop and Chinchilla standard, followed by subsequent selective breeding to reduce its size. First exhibited in 1974, Klein Widder still needed improvements to generate more interest in the breed. Change the name to the Mini Lop, and enlisting the help of other breeders to develop smaller, more compact types, the result more attractive and support.

A Mini Lop club began in 1978, the breed recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association in 1980, and Mini Lop has become very popular in the 1980s and 90s. Although the recent increase is less Holland Lop, Mini Lop remains one of the most popular pet and show rabbits. (Mini Lop in the United States is the most similar to Dwarf Lop in the UK and Holland Lop known as Miniature Lop in the UK).

Special Requirements

Mini Lops can be prone to dental disease, a potentially fatal condition that is often hereditary. Select a rabbit with a low risk of dental problems inherited from reputable breeders or rescue centers.
