Rabbit Diet

The Correct Diet For Rabbit

Hay For Rabbit
Eating the right foods is important for your rabbit health and welfare and should comprise about 80% hay, 10% and 10% dry food, fresh food ...

Eating the right foods is important for your rabbit's health and welfare. Poor diet can lead to obesity, dental disease problems. Domestic rabbit diet should consist of about 80% hay, 10% dry food (commercial rabbit food) and fresh foods 10% (vegetables, fruits, etc.).

Quantities

Rabbits should be fed about their own body volume in hay every day - the haystack of your rabbit. Meanwhile you can feed around. 1 eggcup full of dry food and a variety of fresh vegetables. Dark, green leafy vegetables such as spring and savoy cabbage and carrots as possible and should be seen as a treat because they are high in sugar.

How the rabbit digestive system

Rabbits thrive working on grass only diet, high in fiber but poor in nutrients. To maximize the benefits of their food, some of which will pass through their system twice until they get a "second shot" in absorbing nutrients from it. To keep the bowel moving well rabbit they need to digest and digest fiber mixture. When rabbits eat some food, they enter the intestine and go one of two ways. Indigestible fiber passed through and come out hard, round stools. Move digested fiber to organ called the cecum where the bacteria are working on it, fermentation and makes it easier to digest. It came out as a lump of feces stick called caecotrophs, the rabbit take and swallow directly from below.

Importance of hay

Hay is the closest thing to a natural diet of grass rabbits only. It is high in fiber to make their digestive system running smoothly and grinds down your teeth. As rabbits teeth grow continuously throughout their lives, without the fibrous material they wear down teeth can become too large, causing pain and discomfort for rabbits and even prevent them altogether.

Fresh Food Rabbit ( Carrot )
Dry and fresh food

Theoretically Rabbits can receive everything they need from a good quality hay and fresh but dry food benefical to provide vitamins, nutrients and bacteria-friendly and also provide a bit of variety to the diet of rabbits. Rabbits tend to have a sweet tooth so the food is always very gratefully accepted, but must be seen more as an adjunct to the rabbit main diet of hay.

Each rabbit diet change should be done gradually to allow time to adjust the rabbit stomach and it is a good idea to consult your veterinarian first. Always make sure that the hay and fresh water freely available at all times.

The Rabbit Way

We humans are encouraged to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables every day. For some of us may struggle to rabbits but it will be a paradise on earth. Most rabbits tend to have a sweet tooth and adore something relatively high in sugar, such as bananas, carrots, apples and so on.

What their rabbit candy to us and it is our responsibility as a rabbit owners to limit your intake of these foods. Too many of them and, like the man with the candy, while the waist will expand deteriorating teeth.

This is not to say that we can not feed our rabbit food, but they should be seen as a treat only. Not only will this help your rabbit, it will also help your wallet - treats sold in petshops for rabbits tend to be high in sugar and low in nutrients, not to mention expensive, so instead of eating natural treats is a good idea.

Treating an integral part of the lives of rabbits and has a variety of uses. For example, they can be used when training your rabbit for a simple voice command, as an inducement to rabbit overweight or lazy to exercise more (to hide them from rabbits), as a way to stimulate the nervous rabbit into a carrier or cage, or just as a reward for good behavior rabbit home.

In the case of parts, the main bulk (approx. 80%) of the rabbit diet should always be of good quality hay. pellets (approx. 10%) and green, leafy vegetables (approx. 10%) were fed with this every day. Natural treats can be fed in small amounts such as a piece of banana at a time.

Symptom

Mouth abscess
- Rabbits eat less or not at all, saliva or drop bits of food
Skin abscess
- Tumors that are hard on the body of the rabbit

Prevention / Treatment

First abscess must be drained of pus and fluid in it. This is usually done under general anesthesia. The area should be kept clean and sometimes have to stay open to allow the pus to reduce fully. Antibiotics are usually given to reduce infection.

Lionhead Rabbit

Lionhead

Lionhead Rabbit

Lionhead breed profile, one of the descendants of the last rabbit, named for the mane of long hair standing on the edge around the head. They are a small rabbit, lively and energetic but good-natured.

Size: Small / Medium
Hair type: Medium

Origins

The race Lionhead rabbit is one of the newest and has been developed as a result of a genetic mutation that causes hair growth 'mane' on the head. In nature, mutations occur quite frequently, and many descendants still arise from mutations through selective breeding program.

Lionhead is a large gene mutation before satin rabbits in 1932, and unlike other fur gene mutation is dominant. This means that Lionhead rabbit crossed with normal rabbit will still transmit the genes 'mane' for some children, producing more Lionheads. There are several accounts of where the mutation first occurred Lionhead; some sources say he was born in Belgium, because of the intersection of Swiss Fox with Belgian dwarf rabbits dwarf rabbit to make long-layered, with the offspring then raised with Dwarf Angora.

Another source said that the mutation occurs only in the litter of purebred Dwarf Angoras , with Lionhead dominant genes spread through the Dwarf Angora breed in Europe. Undesirable traits in Angora dwarf, has tried to regulate genes in a new type of "Tete de Lion '. Whatever its origin, the Lionhead definitely born in Europe, and dwarf angora plays an important role in the early development. Rabbit with genes 'mane' imported into the UK and grew up with other small wool breed and Dwarf breeds , to develop the kind of Lionhead, as we know it today. ( The Netherlands Dwarf has a strong influence on the construction of a compact body shape and small ears of the breed standard, and also introduces a variety of colors).

The Lionhead officially recognized by the British Rabbit Council in 2002, in all colors and patterns are known. Lionheads imported in the United States around 2000, in which proliferate under development but not yet recognized by the American Rabbit Breeder Association.

Appearance

Lionhead is a small rabbit, weighing about 1.3-1.7kg (3-3¾lbs).

Lionhead rabbit has a compact, medium build with short stature, broad and round. The head is large, slightly rounded and close-set on the body, with short, erect ears. Lionheads have soft, medium-length hair on the body, with the 'mane' soft wool, 5-7cm (2-3inch) long, standing on the edge around the head and extends to the 'bib' on his chest.

Nurseries Lionheads faithful to the breed standard is not easy. Rabbits having inherited two dominant genes (MM) will have a double mane; maned twin baby rabbits had normal feathers on the head and back that extend to form vee in the tail, with the hips and bare belly. As they grow, the body develops a normal fur, with a thick head of hair more wool in the head, shoulders and chest, and expand in the form of V-neck back. Many Lionheads double mane have excess hair on the sides and a few tufts may develop at the tip of the ear, this is regarded as an error in the case of series.

Lionhed Rabbit
Rabbits inherit a dominant gene and a recessive gene (Mm) will only mane; maned rabbit single child had a normal fur, when they grow up they develop more wool around the head and ears are often thinned by an adult. Single rabbit mane usually hybrid, the result of crossing a double mane rabbits with normal rabbit. Crossing two single rabbit produces some mane (MM) double mane, some (mm) single rabbit mane and some rabbits inherits two recessive genes (mm) will have a normal fur. As double rabbit mane often develop too many feathers, and a single rabbit maned normally lose some of their mane in adulthood, multiply by Lionhead ideal is complex.
